The Molokai Public Library, prominently located in Kaunakakai, is recognized as the only public library on Molokai and as an architecturally significant, outstanding public structure listed on the Hawaii State Register of Historic Places.
The Molokai Library Expansion provides the growing population of Molokai a new space to gather for community programs and events. The library hosts programs that bring musical, cultural, artistic, and educational opportunities to the community. The new structure also provides staff with additional workspace and storage area, transforming the once cramped library into a comfortable gathering space. The new structure, which connects to the existing building via a breezeway, was carefully designed to complement the original structure’s historic character.
The Molokai Library is a centerpiece of the community. The goal was to be able to expand without destroying its charm.
