Ian Pitts is an Associate at FAI with a focus on historic preservation. He earned a Master of Architecture from Kansas State University and has dedicated his career to helping historic buildings adapt to contemporary needs while preserving their character and significance. Ian is passionate about understanding how buildings function for their users, what historic spaces meant to the people who created and inhabited them, and how thoughtful modern interventions can honor that history without diminishing it. He finds real satisfaction in solving technical problems through an understanding of traditional building materials and construction methods and believes that historic preservation is an essential component of 21st-century sustainability. Outside of the office, Ian spends time volunteering with local historic preservation advocacy organizations, building historically themed model railroads, and reading history of all kinds. These interests reflect his belief that architecture is an act of stewardship, connecting people, place, and the built environment across generations.
